hello,i have been reading about the different distributors for various madels. I have a 280sl but the engine is a M130 980 which i believe is also fitted to the 280se. My car suffers from uneven running at higher speeds and on hard acceleration.I have checked all the usual things like points plugs timing etc and they are ok.The only thing is the distributor fitted to the car is a 1FUR6 0231 116 046 which is from a 230sl.Does anyone out there know if this would affect the performance? Also does anyone know the MB distributor number recommended for this engine?
look forward to any suggestions from anybody.

Hello, David,
Welcome to the site.
The M130 980 was fitted with a 0 231 116 051 which is a vacuum retard distributor.
The 0231 116 046 is a vacuum advance distributor and will not run properly with your engine.
You also need to ensure you have the correct throttle body to match with your distributor.
Have a look at the distributor info on our wiki (link below)
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Electrical.Distributor
Also, do a search on throttle body in the wiki. It shows all the different types used with these engines.
Hope this helps.

Another thought:
Try running the engine without vacuum connected.
Of course, you have to block the port at the throttle body.
Would be interested to know if the engine runs any different?
