Hello All!
When I took my interior out, I took these pictures...
There was a small piece of material cut and glued on each side of the dash by the air vents, and also a piece of material cut and glued on the bottom lip where the glove box sits.
Is this accurate?

I did not have these pieces on mine, when I stripped it.
But mine has quite a few things that are not original, so that does not guaratee yours is not "correct".
Your other pictures of the trim pieces are helpful, as I am in the middle of recovering mine.
Those double curves are "murder" to get right! :evil: MBtex is elastic, but it has its limits.

my 230SL had the same trim piece glued on the dash.
The fun really starts when you have to do the cover piece since it is one piece that covers the foam pad above the instruments and goes down in double curves [concave + convex] to cover the piece you show and also tugs behind the chrome trim on the door frame. It reaches as far down as the glued on piece and further.
If you use leather it helps to wet it from the back (raw) side to stretch it and once you have it in place the way you like it you can then use a hair dryer and very, very carefully warm up the leather until it shrinks into place without showing wrinkles.

I don't know whether this works also with MB-Tex -- but since you don't have a taxi cab I assume you use leather. :D
There is a short cut - almost literally - that was used on the Mechatronik car that was in Blacklick. They cut and sowed two pieces together to get the curves to fold easier. I guess it is OK for this car, but certainly not authentic.

When I removed my MB Tex I had the same trim pieces. I believe that it was original because prev. owner tried to freshen up w/ vinyl paint.

Your comments will help when I start to put the interior back in.
I am still a long way from that... the bodyshop still has my car and hopes to have it back to me by next week....
Then the reassembly starts.... should be fun!

I know for a fact I have the original interior and yes on both sides I do have those extra pieces of material...however I do not have an extra piece below the glove box.

Yes, they are original, both sides and under the glovebox. I just personally re-upholstered my 280SLs original leathers with new leathers. Only have the upper dash to complete. Just finished the lower dash/knee pads, and windsheld surround. Anyone need help/advice on a re-upholstery job let me know, will give you the lessons learned.
