Title: Popping coming from front when steering
Post by: grn280SL on April 13, 2008, 12:05:16
Hi guys,
My Sl has developed a pop in the front when it's turned from lock to lock at low speed.  Any suspects?  I think I just need the front end tightened up.

Hey Green,

With a big-a** socket, check the tightness of the bolts that hold on the clamps that hold on the anti-sway bar...mine were a little loose and did the same thing.  There's probably a torque spec but "loose" isn't it.  They may not look loose either--take a wrench to them.

My 230SL had a pop noise as well. I had someone turn the steering wheel from side to side while I looked underneath (do not jack up the car so you can keep load on the linkages). The problem was a worn tie-rod end which you could see play in.

If there a noise something will show up in the linkages or sway bar.
