Title: Rear Tail Panel Moulding

I ordered this chrome/stainless rear lower tail panel molding, Part # A 1136980081 from K&K Mfg. Does anyone have a photo of it on their 230SL or can anyone tell me how it installs? I assume it goes between the rear bumpers below the license plate.

Hello Zanone,
take a look at Amanda's car here:

it shows the chrome blade between the bumpers.
And I believe A. Dalton has the answer for you on how to mount it:

Alfred, thanks. I see that I need to order the kit to install the lower trim and cut the bottom of the license plate at the bottom so it fits above the trim piece.

are you sure you are allowed to cut the license plate in TN? I remember that this was verboten in MO, in addition there were two spaces for year and month stickers at the bottom of the plate.
Are you also adding a frame around the cut plate to hide the cut?
You'll find this chrome trim piece on European cars but not really on US imports because of the license plate dimensions. IMO a nice frame around the US plates can almost create the same impression as the trim piece does together with the narrower European plates.

From my understanding, cutting plates is not allowed in Texas either. I ended up mounting it the same way as the other cars... on TOP of the chrome trim strip. It looks just fine.

I tried the chrome surround route but it looked a bit too busy. I now have just the plate mounted, without any framing.

I once saw a pagoda with the plate mounted hanging below the trim strip... made me nervous given how low these cars are... nice way to damage the rear valence panel if you go up a steep driveway....

Mine overlaps at the bottom, very much like Amanda's. I have never even given it a second thought. It looks perfectly normal to me. I'll look for a picture...
