Title: A second SL
Post by: mbzse on March 31, 2008, 04:40:33
I bought myself a second 250SL yesterday, a Swedish sold car. :)
Metallic green, black leather interior, 5-sp manual. It is a California coupe, i.e. with a rear bench seat and no soft top.

Yes looks quite nice. Is it 834 Moss Green Metallic? Unusual placement of the sideview mirrors. This one for the wife or the mistress  :D

Congratulations. A second Pagoda is an important milestone.  Ricardo is right, the mirror placement is not correct. I've seen a fully restored car with the same placement - mis-informed garage??? But have fun and congrats.

Congratulations Hans!

Does it need much work? And will you be looking to convert it to a soft-top?

For some mysterious reason, I cannot open the files.

Anyway, I could not resist the opportunity to buy a second 113 too. 1970, signal red, original condition, no rust, no accidents, all numbers match.

The previous owner repainted the car in the original color, a fair not great paint job.  Compression tested between 170 and 175 psi with 110k miles. Not bad, that got me to want it.

I got the data card from MB Classic, which basically shows that everything in the car is correct, except the radio. The data card shows code 519 (Grand Prix Radio USA), but the one in the car is Europa Stereo. Also, I cannot figure out if the antenna is supposed to be powered. The antenna in the car does not go up when the radio is turned on.  Thanks for any help.

"Antenna does not go up."

When an automatic antenna is a do-it-yourself installation, the wiring can be misplaced.

Suggest you turn the radio on then try various swiches to see what happens. Of course you can always trace the wiring.

To raise the antenna in one car I know, you turn on the radio then open the driver's door! Antenna retracts the same way when the radio is off.

It's not a problem unless you decide to listen to the radio while the car is scooting down the highway.

I believe an auto antenna retacts to just about even with the car surface while a manual rod stops a few inches above the fender to give a gripping place. Also the top of an original manual antenna usually has a slot for the "Pull Up" key.

Yes, you are very much right in commenting about the placement of these outer side mirrors. The P O told me there were some non-stock mirrors on the car when he aquired it, he then bought two original M-B swan-neck mirrors, but decided to mount these in the already drilled holes left and right... hence the awkward position. Yes, I will rectify this for sure, it is on my list of "ToDo" for this vehicle :)

Very nice indeed!  Same colour as my '65 230sl. I wish I had your 5-sp though... (mine is a 4-sp manual)

Congrats!
