Hi all - I emailed the classic center in LA area earlier this week and they responded today via email with the card and a translation, all I needed to do was give them the VIN. Here's the translation:

I am going to try an attach the image of the data card. What I know about the car is that it was Euro market, and apparently originally had manual transmission. It is now all signal red but apparently the top used to be white. From the engine number it appears it now has an engine from a 250c or ce (129-980-10-014426).
I am wondering if anyone could give me any more info from this card? For example, whether it had a radio or was "radio delete," etc? I am not familiar with these cards at all so any help would be appreciated.

Hey Kyle. One thing I was able to deduce from the top row -- sixth box ... 5 217 XXX means it was originally delivered to a Frankfurt, Germany dealership -- so yes it was (and is) a Euro-spec.

Look here:

According to the card, the car had a manual transmission, and was delivered ex factory without a radio.

Ok. This has to be said -- Klaus -- fantastic job of the Data Info in the Technical Manual! It's exactly the kind of resource we all have envisioned...

Thank you so much - this is an excellent resource! Yes I mis-stated before about the transmission, it originally had an automatic transmission. I am wondering if automatics were very common for this year/model?
If there is any more you might be able to tell me about the car besides what is obvious from the data card that would be greatly appreciated.

looking at the picture of the data card the ORIGINAL engine number shown is 127 981 10 007773
According the DataCard Info in the User manual, '10' (7th & 8th digits) indicates left hand drive with manual transmission
Quote
The next two digits are the same as the center digits in the VIN:
The seventh digit identifies
1 left-hand drive
2 right-hand drive
The eighth digit identifies
0 manual transmission
2 automatic transmission
The last six digits are sequential by transmission type (i.e. separate for manual and automatic).
Unquote
My interpretation is that the car originally had a manual transmission and the new engine was from a car with manual transmission.

I agree with Bob. I see no reason to think the car was ever an automatic. (It's manual right Kyle?). I think the classic center's translation of #422 is throwing us off. It is power steering but the automatic shift was 420. I don't see that on the card.

Hi James - yes it is a manual now, so apparently it looks like it always was manual. When I bought the car I did not realize it did not have an engine originally used for the W113, but I am wondering if it makes much difference at this point too.

Kyle,
Did you know that you can tell if your hard top is the original one for your car? Look at the very bottom of this page where line 4 of the data/paint plate is described:
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=DataCard.BodyandPaintNumberPlate
It tells you what number you might find on various parts of your car, which would determine a "matching numbers" car.

Does the Date Card contain the key numbers for the ignition, doors, etc?
-
I've included a copy of the card on the initial post above, see link to open. I am not very familiar with these cards but it appears to me the those spaces are blank.

You will find that if you provided proof of ownership you would have a data card showing the key numbers.

I emailed them with my VIN and they provided me the data card without any questions.
It arrived today and to my amazement it is showing that the car, delivered in March 1969, Sold in Scotland and imported into Australia about 10 years ago, came with a 5 speed gear box. Its been changed to a four speed somewhere in its life unfortunately so I am now in the market for a 5 speed box if any one has one that they would like to sell!
