Any good reasonably priced floor mats to fit the 113? My carpet was recently replaced and I want to protect it. I have a red car with red carpet and white/ivory seats.

Shawn,
There shouldn't be any carpet under the floor mats, but if they gave it to you then you should protect it. There should be black (or gray?) original style mats still available. Visit www.cocomats.com for nice mats to cover the rubber mats.

Not sure if this carpet is original. They are really more like mats, but a pile carpet type thing. I like the coco mats, thanks for the link. Forwarded it to my wife as a Christmas present idea.

Rodd, small correction: the later cars (all 280 SLs and maybe the 250 SLs) have footwell carpets instead of the rubber mats that 230 SLs have.
Shawn, I second the coco mats. They are a good custom fit to the car and don't move around. I'm very happy with them.

George,
Educate me. When you say "footwell carpets instead of the rubber mats", do you mean that the carpet that comes down the sides of the transmission tunnel is one continuous piece from that point, across the floor, and then up the side to the door frame? Or, do you mean that the floor mats are made of carpet and not rubber, and when you remove them there is no carpet under them?
Thanks,
Rodd

Rodd,
interesting question. I suppose one could call it a floor mat, but I think it's part of the carpet. Anyway, no, it does not come down the trans tunnel, across the floor and up the side in one continuous piece. It's a separate piece that is shaped like a fitted floor mat, and for all I know, it may be the same shape as the 230 SL rubber mat. In my car there is nothing under it, and I think there are snaps at the rear corners to hold it in place. As far as I know, these things are not available as separate pieces. They are part of a 280 SL carpet kit, but I think they are not included in 230 SL kits.

On my 250sl RHD car, they are separate also.
The Drivers side has a rubber mat (about 30cm deep and full width) sewn on top of the carpet. There are two retainers near the seat and the firewall end has a couple also.
There is also a cut out to fit over the kickdown switch.
It is a pity that they are not avail separately because on my car they are the only carpet pieces that needs replacing.
The tunnel cover and the carpet behind the seats and on the seat backs don't get any wear.

Hey Bob thats exactly like my car. The rest of my carpet is perfect, or near enough, but the drivers side is ruined !

Geroge,
Yes, I would phrase it as "carpted floor mats" since they are not physically part of the rest of the carpet. In my 1994 E420, the actual carpet covers the floor and then there are carpeted floor mats on top of that.
I think this backs up the statement made many times that the W113 chassis never came with carpeted foot wells (floors).

Rodd,
OK, I see the distinction. Now we just need to get the carpet makers to see it and make the floor mats separately available :) .
