Title: decorative door strips
Post by: paulr on March 03, 2008, 12:33:37
does anyone know how to attach the lower aluminium strip to the door. I just cannot get the clips into the door with the strip attached yet cant see that the strip is slid on.

The way I've done it is to slip the lower portion into the clips then gently push the upper part into place. No sliding.

so the clips are in the door then and each is done one at a time?

Yes, that's how I've done it.

Douglas. I thought that the 'butterfly wings' went inside the groove leaving nothing between the strip and the car body. Now that I have examined them I see that they are slightly wedge shaped and I have slipped them into the strip with the "wings" on the outside to form a barrier between the two metals. Easy. It's on and looks great.
That is a great example why I don't get involved. I just don't see these things.

Thanks a lot. I knew you'd know.

thanks Naj

I think I'm sorted. However, I did it the other way around. Clips into the chrome then pushed the whole lot into the door. Seems to be tight.

Hey Paul. You are lucky that technique worked for you. Only because, I did mine that way -- most went on fine -- but one ended up with thumb impressions because I was pushing so hard...

MB still stocks them. My local dealer got some for me in about three days.
