Title: So the body shop was not smart and started car

The fuel has been sitting for 4 years or more, the body shop decided instead of pushing it to start it ( I remember telling them not to drive it) and said it was running real bad and stalling....SO now I have to drain the tank...what tools are needed, I remember seeing a plug underneath the gas tank...what are the chances that it will leak when I try to reseal the drain plug?  After I drain it I will fill with a few gallons of premium gas...what else can I do to stop more damage.

so, the plug in the bottom of the plug is a huge allen bolt.

you can take a spark plug socket, one that fits in the allen, cut off the head and use your ratchet to remove the plug.

after the tank has drained, use a new seal from mb or K&K, millers or buds, a few bucks,  clean the screen and re install.

I think the torque is low. so do not overtighten.

or you can remove the fuel sending unit from inside the trunk, and suck out the old gas.

Don't cut the socket apart. Remove the grommet that holds the spark plug in place and use a long exstension insterted through the open end of the socket. If it's the right kind of socket the exstension will fit nicely.

Baron,

You might as well do the whole fuel system cleaning.  Here's what I did on my 230SL:

1.  Drain fuel tank, remove fuel sending unit and filter, and remove fuel tank.
2.  Clean out fuel tank.  I sprayed water into fuel tank using a pressure nossle on garden hose.  There are three large entry points with stuff removed, and you can spray into the sending/return lines, the slots in the edge where the filter was screwed in, and in the venting line(s).  This got 95% of the loose junk out.
3.  Let tank dry out completely then mount it back on the car.
4.  Install new filter screen in bottom of fuel tank & replace fuel sending unit.
5.  Remove electric fuel pump.  Check it's inlet for a screen filter and clean if present.  Replace pump.
6.  Remove and replace main fuel filter in engine bay.

At that point, test for fuel flow rate.  It should be 1 liter in 15 seconds at return line to fuel tank.
