Hello I just found a 280sl #113 044 0008// it was sold as a1971 but cleaning her out I found a 1969 regerstration but the prodution numbers would place her a1968 the tag is under the hood thanks

Some people use the production year, and others use the first year of registration. I have a similar issue with one of my cars. Frankly, I prefer to identify my car with the year of production, as it more accurately reflects the vintage. (besides, I'm not certain of the authenticity of my car's historical "first year of registration"-- it reeks of someone trying to make an extra buck by making it look younger)

Tom,
If it's a Us model, there should be a metal plate somewhere in the driver-side door jamb that has the production month and year stamped into it. Look for something like this:

If the plate under the hood indicates #113 044 0008XX, then the production date was February 1968, making it an early 1968 280SL.
