As I continue to explore and restore, especially through the large opening gained by removing the York compressor and bracket, I found that the battery cable is being pinched as it passes between the edge of the sump and right engine strut. The cable was actually almost down to bare wire at that spot. Is my cable routed incorrectly? There appears to be an additional tube covering further up the cable towards the starter. Maybe this is to buffer this pinching and had slid up? If so, maybe I need to put ring clamps on either side of this tube to prevent it from sliding.

You may be missing one of the cable supports along the side of the engine:

I have those 3 cable supports as in your picture across the front of the engine. This problem is along the passenger side of the engine, behind and below where the alternator would mount. Below is a picture of where the cable is being pinched:

Mine has another support along the right side of the engine. Maybe you're missing that one.
