Title: 1966 239sl auto trans shifting adjustments
Post by: ltumacder on February 12, 2008, 18:41:56
My 1966 230sl auto shifts like a dream thru the gears.  MY only complaint is that over the years the shifter lever needs to be pushed up above 4 or R if I am choosing either one of these gears.  For example, if I move the shifter from P to 4, I actually have to push it up a little bit above the 4 for it to fall into the 4th gear..  The same if I am moving from P to reverse, I need to push the lever a little above the r for it to actually fall into to R.  It also shifts a little rough and usually hear a clunk from the engine as i jerk backwards or forwards.

Any suggestions as to the adjustments I need to make?

Thanks,

Larry

you probably need new shifter bushings, they do wear out.

couple of bucks for the parts (2) and 30 minutes of work and you are done.
