Title: why is green upholstery not available?
Post by: bcjm on October 02, 2003, 09:29:32
No one seems to have the carpet or mats in this color.  Anyone know a source?

Hello bcjm,

Green is indeed are rare color in our SLs. However, it was factory-available and I currently know at least of two cars with this interior.

There is a German interior shop in Hamburg (I'll give you the address later) who makes terrific interior sets and I saw one 250 SL-late with perfect green leather and square weave carpet.
Highly recommended but may be a little expensive for you - depending on where it needs to be shipped.

Best

My car is white with black tops, black seats but a green carpet !

The carpet currently is a non original wilton wool carpet. I doubt anyone would replace a black carpet with a green one so I'm thinking the green is original. Will the data card tell me this and is there anywhere I can see the actual shade of green that might have been used originally ?

I need to replace my carpet and I was going for black, but now I have my doubts !!

Ben, could you post your data card? I'm very curious. Normally, I'd say that a Wilton wool carpet was wrong, but on a very early 230 SL , who knows?

Yes, your data card will tell you this.  Everyone with a Pagoda should acquire a data card for their car.

Yes I have sent for the data card just today so I'll post the info when I get it. To be honest I'll be glad of the help deciphering it !

I know for a fact that the carpet was replaced in 1990 in the UK and since the former owner went to a lot of trouble getting the correct seat covers I doubt he would have fitted a non standard carpet, especially a green one !

I'll look for the recipt again, maybe the company still exists and can tell me what their range is !

Ben,
Is all your leather black (dash, doors, etc.), or just the seats?  We will be glad to help you on your data card.  Much has already been discussed, so use the search.  You will learn lots!

Thanks,

A big thanks to all who helped me decode my data card a few months ago.  One question that remains- what does the date stamped in the lower right corner indicate?  In my case, it's about a month after the date indicated by the VIN.

Yes the seats, dash and doors are all black, though once again there is evidence, receipts that some was replaced. I'm fairly sure the interior was always black as the soft box insert and the leather on the unrestored hardtop is all black.

From studying the data card info here it seems unlikely that the car came with black everything but a green carpet !

Time will tell !

While at a Mercedes club event today, one 113 (69 280SL Silver) had green carpets and interior. I asked if these were replacements. The driver indicated they had been changed four years ago through the following outfit
