I've tried to reply to a this particular thread a few times and have each time received the attached error.
http://index.php?topic=8097
I'm obviously not having problems making new thread/posts in general.
Anyone else having problems?

Rodd,
Ditto here. Wanted to reply to an older thread and got the same error.

Got the same error on Sunday morning and sent a note to Peter. I was able to post to the thread later that day.

Yes, just now, when using the "Reply with Quote" function. If I just did a normal reply like this one it worked just fine.

Rodd:
most diffently I am getting errors mostly when I go back to correct my post. Sometimes it will not reconize the correction and leave the orginal post. This is a bit sticky.

Yes Rodd,
I just experienced exactly the same phenomenon you described.
You can post a few words but that's all.
I wanted to answer a thread with 420 words (MS Word count) -> didn't go through several times.
Perhaps one of the servers between ...
I'll try it tomorrow again.

Yes, I am having problems with one also.

Haven't had any yet. My only problem so far is having to log in every couple weeks. For some reason my info doesn't stay in the system. The other problem I have is if I perform a search it will run out of time.

Dear All... the database is FULL, all 100 megabytes of it. I'm on top of it with the hosting povider. It will cost us more money. Normal service will be resumed in the next day or so.

Anything we can get rid of like Items for Sale that are old or messages with links that no longer work, or useless photos?

Dear all,
some of you may have experienced that the site was behaving eratically, and that posts you were making were not successful. I have in fact today taken the site down, until this was resolved. It is now resolved, and the site should be fully operational again.
Basically we have filled up completely our 100MB database allotment, in which forum messages get stored (note... not the photo's, for that we have plenty of space and I will increase the file upload limit to 250KB as soon as the database is operational).
Each additional 10Mb of space (at the current rate, enough for about 3-4 months of messages) costs and additional $10 per month. I have ordered an additional 30MB (so that is about 1/3rd more space than we currently have) which should last us a year. It does mean that our monthly hosting costs have gone up from $34,95 to $64,95. It is so expensive because we are hosted on a Windows platform. I will start making more progress in investigating moving us up to a new linux platform with new forum software. The deadline is now to complete that move before year end 2008, as I've had to give a one year committment on the extra storage.
So can I ask all of you to:
- first check the forum through search before posting questions
- check out the technical manual (http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php), it also has lots of information already, before posting
- add technical information to the technical manual (http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php) instead of in the forum (we have plenty of space for the manual, not for the forum)
Note: there is no point in deleting photo's, only of old topics to save space.
Thanks for your cooperation.

As a security feature, we required everyone to re-log in every 30 days. I have now set this to once a year... not very secure -- but easier for you.

Peter,
This is such a valuble forum, I am willing to pay an annual nominal fee as a member to defray costs. Has this ever been discussed?

If you become a full member (join here) (http://www.sl113.org/membership/default.asp), that's exactly what you're paying towards. And then you can help on the Technical Manual. So please all join up!

Peter,
A big THANKS for getting this fixed quickly.
I'm sure everyone can try to follow your 3 simple rules for database efficiency.

Peter, given the massive difference between hosting on the windows platform ($65/month for 130MB) and linux platform (e.g. $7/month on http://www.bluehost.com/ for 600GB-- thats GIGABYTES!).... I say we definitely start looking. Do let me know if I can be of any service.
And thanks for your fantastic efforts in keeping the site maintained-- it's truly appreciated.

I looked at their site but could not find anything to say how big the database could be... I've looked at other hosting plans and although they offer more than our current hoster (web.com if you're interested) they all limit the size of the database. Now if these guys really offer a 600GB database (which I doubt, but 600MB would be great too) I'll definitely keep them in mind.
And I'll start planning now... when I get further I'll involve you and Jim Villiers. Are you or Jim handy with Joomla or something like that (cause I need to replace www.sl113.org front pages, hard coded in ASP).
