I just bought an original white/ivory steering wheel for my '66 230SL. It was in the original MB packing, and was bought from a reputable dealer.
However my wheel & hornpad look more of a beige colour than the ivory/white I was expecting. I'm sure that the white wheels I've seen on other 230SLs are far more "white" than mine. I'll upload a picture of mine later. But can anyone confirm that their white steering wheels actually look 'white' or perhaps post a picture ?
Here is a picture of a white wheel that sold recently on Ebay. It is far more 'white' than mine. My wheel colour is more similar to the outer colour of the hornpad in this picture.
Thanks & regards
Frank

Hi Douglas
Many thanks for that. It does appear (in the picture anyway) that your wheel has more 'white' in its colour. However mine is the earlier style, so there may have been a slight difference in colour ?
I'll get a picture of mine tonight to compare
Appreciate your help

Hello Frank,
Ivory colored steering wheels are clearly supposed to be "ivory" and not white.
There are some little differences in the horn pad shadings though.
It mainly depends how old (and faded) your horn pad is.
BTW: The very early 230 ones where supposed to be "elfenbeinfarben" (ivory) and later ones (230 SL from VIN 002000 or so) "hellelfenbeinfarben" (light ivory). If your's new, it should be the latter.
Have you looked at it outside with daylight?
Usually a washing (mild dishes detergent) and some buffing helps.
Best,

Interesting set of photos. I bought a new steering wheel from MB three years ago, and it was fairly light ivory, while not white per se, it was close. My horn pad is also a close match to the steering wheel.
