Hi have just recently joined and am currently looking for a reasonable 66 to 70 pagoda
Am based in UK have seen site avertising some promising looking vehicles
The site is SL Pagoda.com and is based around the Bristol area
Does/has anyone had any dealings with this company or purchased a car from them
Also is there any other site or dealer worth checking out within the UK
Does any one have an opinion on the 250 variant as I am led to belive that has the weakest engine is this right/wrong
Regards

Bill,
Welcome. This topic (what car to buy) comes up regularly. Spend sometime reading this forum, and using the search forum. Research your vendor here too. I'm sure most of your questions will already have been answered. Look through our Technical Manual too.

Am intending to follow thro on a couple that seem to be within the budget
Will also follow up on the tech side

don't get too excited about Silchester, they aren't very good. Silver arrows do have nice cars.

Hi Bill,
If you must have a RHD car, so be it, but the best deals and best cars I think are to be found over the pond. There are certainly pitfalls in buying from the US, but for what you'd pay in pounds for a UK car could get you a truly excellent car from the US at todays exchange rates. Worth considering. There are also quite a few 113's in the ads in Classic Car mag.
Check out these posts and, as others have said, use the search function. Moreover, I'd second the bit about silver arrows over silchester. Another to avoid is just S of the river in London near Putney.

Hi Guys thanks again for the advice and the info on Silchester
The dealer mentioned by James that is based in Putney is that Chelsea Cars?
James not concerned about RHD or LHD just a decent car for decent money
Am not adverse to a bit of work as I used to make a living as a welder in the uk
I have been seriously considering buying from the US but as you say lots of pitfalls, have seen what appear to be some half decent cars but from dealers and read a recent article about a very knowledgable SL enthusiate that got caught out with a car from the states to the tune of 12 grand sterling bodywork repair bill and this was after buying from a so called reputable US dealer
But keep the advice and leads coming as any all info helps

Bill,
I hope the thread I posted of another person looking for a Pagoda in the UK helped.
There are lots of leads in the US (and I'm sure globally, but I don't know those).
http://www.slmarket.com/
I recommend subscribing to this newsletter if you're patient and not wanting a car today. They publish about once every 6 weeks or so. Typically there are dozens of ads, often over 100, for Pagodas in this US publication.
http://www.mbca.org/pages/Star/jf08tp.htm
Only 3 Pagodas in this issue's ads. MBCA (and I'm sure MBUK) is a good source.

Bill,
Yes, that's the dealer.
I think that if you found a car in the US that looked really promising (post photos for a feeding frenzy - a favourite sport but very useful) you would/might find a member of the forum who is close enough to look at the car for you were you to offer expenses. I've seen people do that. I would try that route were I doing this again. And as for the reputable dealers, people here know who they are. Use the expertise to limit damage down the road.

Bill,
There is nothing wrong with the 250 variant. In fact, there really isn't a lot of difference between three engine versions. The 230/250/280SL models have so much more in common than uncommon, any would be a great choice. Just find the one that makes your heart sing! Best of luck in your search.

Hi again guys thanks for all the info
Question for James do you have any info on the site/dealer SL Pagoda.com
The US appears to be a much better source for vehicles ie more on offer
So this is looking like the viable option
Rod thanks for the info on the 250 have some leads for a couple here
Again any body had much to do with company called Daniel Schmitt & Co operate out of St Louis
James have deceided to steer clear of Chelsea Cars spoke to them a while back I am a complete novice but they new even less there main interest seemed to be GBH of my wallet

Have indentified two cars that look promising
Both are in the UK once I figure out how to load the photos will post and hopefully get some comments
Price wise let me know what you think
1) 66 havana brown cream interior LHD 230 manual 19750 sterling which equates to approx 39500 US import from CA so dealer said
2) 69 280 auto dark blue cream interior RHD 26950 sterling again approx 53900 US I think this is top dollar both are from dealers
but the second one, dealer seemed to be very frank about condition pointed out all the little bits and pieces all seemed minor
Here in the UK prices are a lot higher than the States but what would/could I expect to get in the US for that kind of money
Also how long does it take for full membership to be activated signed up yesterday paid but still can not access members sites
