Lucky you, did you have to pay much for it ?
I saw one in an auction here last year & was going for around £7000 ! ('[:0]')

I guess I had better not complain about the $US 25 extra that I pay for personal plate 'PAGODA' here in Ohio!

Wow! Some of us are lucky and Some of us are getting ripped off.
I'm not keen on personal number plates, however on a classic I think its a nice touch.

Congratulations Eryck. I guess now you can take off the '230 SL' plate off the trunk lid...

Personalized plates are a new thing in Hong Kong.  The Hong Kong government only recently opened up personalized plates for auction.  All proceeds go to charity.

I first wanted W113 but it was taken, to my surprise.

We nominate a plate we want (one that's not already taken), put a deposit of HKD5,000 (about US$640).  If no one else bids for it, it's yours for that price.

Unfortunately, on the day, there were a couple of dealers there jacking the price up but still, I got the plate for about US$1,800.

Wonder if someone will nominate 250 SL or 280 SL or even Pagoda....

By the way, just to be clear, those dealers do not have any Pagoda's.  These cars are very rare in HK and they never make it into dealers' hands.

There are dealers that trade in number plates and they were just trying to get something cheap to make some money off.  Just surprised me that they would go for something as illiquid as 230SL.

Here is "a seventy twoeighty" - old Norwegian number plates. Went out of use in 1968 I think. The letter "A" was for Oslo back then.

Jonny--you got away with $25 extra??  DANG!  Mine was $35! ;)

(Note: Ohio and Michigan are friendly, adjacent states, sometimes rivals.  Jonny has PAGODA in Ohio, I have PAGODA in Michigan.)

I got tired of peeps asking, "Hey, What year is that car?  So ordered a "tutorial" license plate that I can point to.

To the General Public, the car is German so its a "Euro" car; while  afficionados of 113 cars can see that the car is a "Euro" model...so I have both camps covered.

P.S. Let me know if any NY'er wants "71 MBENZ"   I own that one too.

Mike,

Perhaps it is the frugal nature of the Ohio state government?? .....
Nah, can't be that.

Ohio and Michigan....

Over this past weekend, the number plate "18" was just auctioned in Hong Kong for US$2.1 million....

18 is auspicious for the Chinese, but that auspicious!??!!

Richard, I hear you.

We are a one-plate state.  (Budget cuts, you know).  My rear plate is PAGODA.
(http:// uploaded/mdsalemi/200822875927_Rear Plate.jpg )

My front plate is an accurate German reproduction that says 1969 280SL.

I too have all the bases covered.  The front plate of course sits underneath the big honkin' 3-point star in the grill so if anybody needs to ask further questions, they just don't get it!
