Looking the Gallery http://www.oldtimer.ru/arhiv-en.htm of past editions of Classic Motor Show in Moscow http://www.oldtimer.ru/salon-en.htm I was pleasantly surprised to see many Mercedes in the exposition and also Pagodas, so i think that like a lot also in Russian.
Somebody knows how many Pagodas there are in Russian and from which countries are imported (Europe, Usa, some sold new in the 60?), how much cost now?
How is the situation of classic car market in Russian ?
Here some photos of Pagodas at the Moscow Expo:

Wow! I counted at least 7 different 113s, all of them beautiful. The dark blue 230 appeared to be American market. The Red 230 had round headlights but the turn signals weren't correct for a US version. I have no other guesses.
It's interesting to see the changes capitalism brings.
What is Chromov?

Ray,
Chromov is a middleman organization that facilitates acquisition of oldtimers. They seem to specialize in Jag and MB.
Lest I say something naughty, I'll stop at saying that a lot of 113s are probably "moving" from Europe and the US to Moscow. How they "move" is up to your imagination.

The Russians are very serious about MB cars (and other marques too I'm sure)
Here is a link to the Options decoding page of the Russian MB club...and they are gracious enough to have an English section for those of us whose Cyrillic is rusty.

I learned at the Techno Classica in Essen in 2007 that most W113 cars tha were sold at high prices went to Russia, driving up demand and prices.
Clearly money can buy something in good taste! ;)

I've been in Moscow, and other Russian cities, a half dozen times, and have never seen a classic car on the street. There were lots of very nice, very shiny, newer cars, like MB, Hummers and "off the road chic" Cherokees. Each one that was parked was accompanied by at least one brutish man dressed in black sporting a bad haircut and trying to look dangerous.
The "laws" are different there. People think in terms of what is possible rather than what is legal. For example, if someone steals your car, the police and judges can be bought off. No one is going to even seriously investigate unless they receive a bribe.
I once asked a driver what happens if one is in an accident there, because he had asked me how car insurance works. (His eyes opened wider when I described it.) In response to my question, he said "Well, the drivers sort it out. If one person is obviously to blame, he may give the other driver some money." When I asked what happens if he doesn't have any money, he just shrugged. Shrugging is big in Russia.
Some people there now just have an unbelievable amount of money, all of it acquired in what we would consider an immoral or illegal way, and an equally large need to display it. I think this exhibit is an example. Don't mistake this display as affection, such as we feel, for the marques. It is simply a display of wealth (and the perks that accompany it).

Which is exactly why I wrote that if they spend money on these classic cars above, at least they buy something tasteful with it. Regrettably they'll probably send more of it on the beauties in the post below, which do not age narly so well as our cars ;)
However, ageing aside, when is the next time this particular classic show is again... I may go there to see some of those "newfangled" beauties next to the older ones... you don't see many of those newer ones at the Technoclassica in Essen.

Do note that when that russian site http://www.oldtimer.ru reorganises or throws away the photographs, we'll be left with very ugly meaningless posts. Also, this page now takes ages to load...
It is friendlier for our members to post a set of links to their site.
For photographs such as these, I don't mind people linking to external sites too much. For technical articles or content we do not want to lose, please upload to our site. See these instructions (http://www.sl113.org/forums/faq.asp#GetForum). It is not difficult, and I amy relax the file size restrictions somewhat.
