I had a heck of a time removing the small light bulb from the side marker lights on my 280SL. this morning I took the new bulb to an auto parts supply store and purchase some 5/16 fuel line hose just fits over the glass bulb.
Second I cut a slice in the center of the hose you only need 3 to four inches and installed a popsicle stick to turn the hose.
1) carefully slide hose over glass bulb and with a light firm force down ward turn to the right to uninstall old bulb.
2) add a dab of dielectric grease to the sides of the bulb housing and carefully reinstall bulb turning to left to snug tight
3) turn on light switch to first position to check if light goes on, turn off light switch reinstall lens cover.

Bob,
This is great.
Should have a place in our tech manual section.
Best,
