Title: Blowing out the cobwebs
Post by: hauser on December 01, 2007, 03:29:59
After about two months of inactivity I jumped in the old girl and gave her a thrashing!  I was actually surprised that she even came to life after all that time of a comatose state.  One turn of the key and she came alive!  Oh yeah!

Now out of her temperature controlled enviroment it was after midnight. The air was cold and dense just the way she likes it and off we were.  I gave her a couple hard ones to the pedal then I engaged her first of five gears and with a squeal we were off.

We set off with a northern heading with no destination in mind.  We were free spirits seeking thrills and our hearts beat as one.  Before we knew it we're on the highway with plenty of room to stretch our legs.  I pushed her as hard as I could and she just wanted more and so I just had to oblidge.  Working her through her patterns we reached her fith and final gear and she still had plenty more.

I've never really treated her that roughly before but we had to see just how far we could go until one of us couldn't go any further.  I was spent.  She beat me fair and square when I saw her needles pointing in a westerly position I just couldn't keep going.  I guess she wanted to prove to me she still has it after all these years.  Her straight six is a wonder or should I say wunder?

Although she's only pumping 140 per she still had plenty of gusto in reserves.  We'll just have to get Master Gernold to help fill the void when she is treated to the Metric rebuild.  She'll be a site to see with her newly chromed and caded bits and trim.  Oh what a joy that will be.

Now, now, there there...

Is the old ticker back in rest now? You shouldn't be exciting yourself like that over an old lady...  ;)

Hey Doc remeber that night ride in the Red Rocket in Blacklick this past summer?  It was kinda like that only much more intense and I was flying solo!

For those of you not in the know.  The good Doctor Benz aka Dan Caron and myself went for a ride in his 230sl ZF 5 speed in Blacklick this past summer when we attended Mary and Joe Alexander's Tech Event aka The PUB.  The good Doctor was kind enough to show me what his car was capable of until we ran out of road!  What a ride!  Unbelieveable acceleration in that 230sl that he has tweeked to perfection.  He has lovingly named the car The Red Rocket.

Jeez, hauser, you could make this into an X-rated website!  Got a giggle from your little essay, though.  Carling is also red but is never driven in the wonton and bodice-ripping way you describe!  Now, she may be an old lady, but she still surprises people who believe her "Florida Antique" plate...

Just wanted to spice things up around here.  I guess I'm just very passionate about the marque.  Afterall the Pagoda is a very sexy car! 8)

Yeah, good thing I slowed down too. I'd be just getting out of jail for the holidays since there was a cop just around the corner.

 The Rocket goes pretty good.....
