Hey Detlef, do you have the background on this car?  Where / Why / How did the owner convert the pagode ?  The conversion looks pretty slick, however unsavoury it may be to most of us...

The car was 2004 in Bavaria rebuilt and sold.

A pure taste-thing. My taste, it would also not. But please remember,
between 1980 and 1990, approximately 2/3 of the Pagoda-Stock disappeared.

For such conversions were mostly taken very bad cars. These cars would
be otherwise to the Junk-Yard. Better so, than if an ancient Pagoda lands
in a Chinese Steal-Factory. And so bad, the car did not look, or?

Not my cup of tea!  However!  Looks like a lot of work went into this Pagoda to do this unsavory transformation.  I'm trying to figure out what lights were used for the front and how our cars would look if they had these lights.  They definately favor the the 300sl but look a bit smaller.  A futile attempt at creating something that would only fool an idiot!  This saddens me!  I think that I'll go into the garage now and talk to my beloved car.

under aesthetic point of view you have of course right.

But what do you think, for example, of the rebuilding of Karl Middlehauve
in USA, who rebuild together with the famous Pagoda-Designer Paul Bracq old
Mercedes 600er M100 cars to Pic-Ups and Coupés?

Or an another Example

Karl Middlehauve is a very well respected expert of the MB 600.  I myself consider the man to be a genius.  I have also been a long time admirer of his work not just limited to his incredible restorations but his ferocity of pushing the envelope.  His work on the Benzomino for example was one of my favorites.

And don't forget that Karl knows how to squeeze more horse power and torque out of any existing MB engine especially the vintage ones!

Karl is one bad ass tuner to beat!!! :D

Some years ago I saw this conversion (only the front side) on a 190 SL, this the description of the seller:

"Old conversion to the front optical group fitted from the coachbuilding Mercedes of Zurigo in mid sixties. The old owner has intentional to embellish its 190 SL making to be similar at the big sister '300 SL Roadster'. but if you don't like the cost of all the front light is about € 800...

A company at Essen were displaying a 300SL roadster on an R170/171 (SLK) platform

The bodywork was all GRP. Up close it looked OK. Not anything like the original, but then how many 289/427 Cobra replicas are that good a facsimile of the original?

Unlike the gullwing, at least you can roll down the windows in this... but I suppose you can do that with the 300sl roadster too.
