K

I first found the listing for French model amber lamps in the MBZ parts microfische catalog 25 years ago and tried to order them, they were not available through the USA parts network, but I always thought it would be cool to have amber fog lamps. That section is still in the parts listings but the number subs to same number as the clear bulbs.

I tried an experiment with a transluscent stained glass paint that is available in hobby craft stores and painted my bulbs amber.

I mixed up some of this paint to a yellow-orange (amber) color and dipped the bulbs in the paint, it took several coats to get the same depth of color as an 1157na  turn signal bulb.

I allowed the paint to cure for several days before installing them, they sent off some smoke for about the first 5 minutes.

I ended up coloring the marker lamp peanut bulbs too because they light up a white spot in the corner of the lense.

Al:
do you remember the Mercedes-Benz or Bosch part number for the yellow fog lamp bulb?
It looks like you have the USA early Bosch LE1567 USA headlamp unites is this what the bulb will fit?

I have some french H4 bulbs for the CieBe headlamps it would be cool to do what you did, or fine the correct bulbs.

Thank You

OK, heres the solution. Not for the faint hearted, but it does work. I took the existing bulbs, pulled the glass bulb out of the base carefully keeping the base intact. I then took some halogen bulbs and carefully removed the glass bulb out of the base. I took the original base and the new bulb and carefully soldered the two small wires sticking out of the bulb to the base. What I ended up with is the stock base with a very bright halogen bulb that goes right in and can be returned to stock anytime. It really does work. You can probably get yellow bulbs in higher wattage if you look some. It really is easy and with some soldering skills it is no problem. Mine have worked for years.
