Title: ID plate at the door post

The 280 Sl has an ID plate at the drivers side is the 230 Sl has the ID plate?

230SL ID plate is located on the firewall on the intake/exhaust side of the engine compartment.  There is a rectangular cut-out in the firewall padding where the id plate should be attached.
