Title: Replacing trim
Post by: n/a on September 18, 2003, 22:33:27
After having the body repainted, chrome re-chromed and all new aluminum trim purchased, I am having difficulty re-assembling things. Between the chrome shop and body shop losing all the nuts and bolts, and my mis-placing quite a few bags of bolts, I will have to purchase all new mounting hardware. My question is: Are all trim pieces bolted/screwed directly to the bodywork as-is, or do any pieces need protective backing first. I recall seeing someone put plastic backing on the grill for example, before installing against the painted body (the 280sl resoration video). I also imagine I should use all stainless steel hardware, rather than zinc coated.

If you have a MB Spare Parts List for your car (what type?) then you will have all the part numbers for all the screws, washers, trim, etc.
