Title: Correctness of leather over windshield
Post by: gugel on September 18, 2007, 18:21:58
Is the leather on the bar just over the windshield in the soft top supposed to be the same color as the interior of the top, or as the seats, dash, etc.?

Mine is the same color as my dash and seats (Tex vinyl in my case).

Thanks for the answer, James.  I also checked with Gernold and got essentially the same answer.  For my car (built in February 1965),  the leather on the front top bow should evidently be the same color as the seats and dash.

Yes Chris,

That's correct or original for a 230 SL. :)
They (MB) later changed that to a vinyl material like for the sun visors.
Also: Later hard tops had the front bar covered with the same material as the rest of the headliner. Earlier (or all ?) 230ies had it the same way as your (and my) softtop:  MB tex or leather matching the remainder of the interior.

Best,
