Hi Pagoda Group, I am Roberto and i live near Modena (Italy)and today i had had the possibility to drive my '66 230 SL in the Ferrari Track, the famous "Pista di Fiorano".
A very beautiful day passing driving :D 8)

lovely 1970 280 SL

Very nice car! Only thing about it that caught my eye is the location of the small turn signals - so far, I always saw them in front of the front wheels, rather than behind. Do you know whether this is their original location?

'69 white 280 SL automatic
The car is a European car for the Belgium market,it has also the red tail light lens, early style, and in origin the car had NOT small turn signals.
In 1990 it has been imported in Italy, and for the local law is necessary to put the small turn signals in the similar space where have new cars, so the old proprietary put them there.
I'am thinking to remove them and put in the original italian position, but it's not according with the actual italian law...

Often in some italian's car forum it's not allowed for privacy to publish photos of car with plate, or are not published, sorry for it.

Beautiful Pagoda. I'm immediately reminded of the story of Uhlenhaut driving his little 230 SL around the track at Montroux in 1963 and finishing just .2 seconds behind a V12-powered Ferrari 250GT. I wonder if a Porsche 911 could've done that....

Achim, the paint code is 716 grey-beige with interior MB Tex Caviar code 2100.
I like this color because change which the intensity of the light, looks more beige with green with few light, to look similar dirty white in the sunshine :D

Italian Pagodas have an orange disk on the each front fender not far from the headlight. Roberto's car has what might be a disk back near the door opening.
Is it an orange disk and does anyone know why it's so far back?

The 'disk' is a turn signal that was mandatory for cars in Italy. So Mercedes borrowed one from Fiat and placed it in front of the front wheels. Why Gilles' car has its lights so far back I don't know, probably was done after a repaint?

Beautifull Car. It must have been fun to drive it on the track with all those other great marques.
I also noticed a rare option "antenna on the left rear portion of the fender". My Dad did this to his 280SL. I guess it was a real pain to get to the antenna with AC in the front Right fender to fix it. It certainly makes more sense putting it away from the engine to keep any interference and servicing it is easy.
