Title: turn signal woes
Post by: Markus on August 31, 2007, 21:39:17
:) Thought I would share a repair to the "tin can" turn signal relay under the drivers foot well. If your turn siganl no longer flashes (especially at low rpm) but just stays "ON" or is very slow, you can adjust the intermittency by turning a slot screw 1/8 to 1/4 turn counter clockwise through the base plate of the relay.  Conversely if the turn signal lights will not come on, remove the can assembly, open the aluminum can crimpings with pliers (very soft aluminum) gently clean both sets of contacts with 1500 grit paper, spray contact cleaner on contacts and try before reassembling the "can". Be very careful not to touch or disturb the "hair" like wires that make up the relay. I think a lot of these original relays can be rehabed in this way before purchasing the black box transistorized versions, and switching connectors around.  8)

Sorry, I don't even own a digital camera, let alone a transistorized flasher relay! I am still living in the clean up the relay contacts, and adjust the magic screw era.  I am working on it though.
