do you think that i have to change or work rear axle since
thei is a noise on reverse ans alson on first or second speed
the car has 130,000 miles and i am the second owner. motor &
and transmission recently redone
i have also problem with my flesher. when i pull up the
i have to keep my hand on to stay it at his place. is someone
had already this kind of problem. sorry for my poor english

Can you describe the noise? There are several components of the rear axle that could be making noises. These parts include the axle carrier plate which is mounted in the trunk. This part is basically a large steel plate that carries much of the rear axle weight. It is surrounded by rubber to absorb small vibrations. The rubber can dry and deteriorate over time. Failure of the rubber would cause the axle to make a "clunk" or metal to metal noise as you changed gears. With the brake on someone else may be able to observe and localize the noise as you shift from forward to reverse. The carrier plate is located in the center forward area under a plastic cover. The axle does not need to be removed to replace this part. There are also a couple of other rubber bushings associated with the trailing arms. This failure would also create a clunking type noise ( metal to metal) when shifting. A failure in the u joints is also possible. A high pitched noise may indicate a bearing problem.
