Title: A question of taste - which color?
Post by: 66andBlue on August 20, 2007, 21:04:49
After having seen Ed Cave's car (see attached pic) I decided to change the shifter ball and the tip of the seat position adjuster to white also. However I decided to use plastic spray paint rather than buying these items. Looking at it I am wondering whether I shouldn't also change the handle that moves the seat forward and back from black to white.  I assume this option never existed, but why not? What do you think? Let me know.
Thanks!

Looks great!  Of course, why not paint them white instead of purchase new? and if the paint rubs off over time just paint again. No problem at all.
The fore and aft seat handle has been that same black color and shape on every older Mercedes I've had. But why shouldn't it be white to match the others. If you like it then that sounds like a reasonable and nice touch to me.

Alfred,

Looks good. For what it's worth, Pagoda "Guru" Gernold offers these exact parts over at his website, SLTechW113.com:

Hi Guys,

I was just gonna say...my taste runs to ivory.  It's a bit less stark than white and goes well with the seats and wheel. Wish I'd been in the position to buy Ed's car...but this summer was a Porsche time for me, too.

Yes, France is correct.

The original's colors are more ivory (like the steering wheel), not white.

Best,

Alfred,

Maybe you could go "whole hog" and paint the window cranks knobs, heater fan knob, cigar lighter, turn signal lever, head light switch, etc....  Must wear sun glasses to drive that car!   8)

Chad, Trice, Douglas and Achim,
thanks for your comments.  Since the steering wheel on my car is ivory colored (and not white like Ed Cave's) I had already bought a matching spray paint. I am also installing headrests and needed to paint the plastic oval rings for the leather since I couldn't get them in the ivory/beige color (NLA), only in black. That was the start,

.. going "whole hog"?  You betya, Rodd. When you get to my age you need all the help you can get. And since all the items you mentioned are somewhat security related I intend to paint them firehouse red with a dab of luminous paint in the center so in can see them in the dark too. Eat you heart out!  :)  :D  :D
