Title: Cockpit (interior) Cover
Post by: JimVillers on July 30, 2007, 16:13:17
At Blacklick, I displayed a cockpit cover for my Pagoda and several members inquired about the source.  I purchased mine from autoanything.com.  They, however, no longer show that cover on their web site.  An equivilant cover is offered by http://www.carcoversdirect.com/index.php (speciality covers; convertible; interior; make/year; model; convertible).  Priced from $80-150.

You can get a Covercraft Interior cover at this site http://216.60.144.111/ecatcust/getx.asp?custid=50580  Scroll down and click on Specialty Covers then Interior Covers then year/make/model.  Six fabric choices, about $50.  I would go with flannel, mine is some sort of nylon or poly and I think it is scratching my soft top cover.

An alternative is the "official" Mercedes-Benz "Cockpit Cover" that they sell for the 107 and 129 SL's.  It fits fine on the 113.  I don't have the part number (couldn't find it on the label)but it was not expensive, less then $100.00 (that was last summer...)  Available from any dealer of course.

Jim,

Or anyone who has experience with these...How do they attach and would they keep the rain out or just the sun off?

I've owned one for a couple months now, but the hard top has been on the whole time so I haven't used it yet.

Using common sense, I would think that when it rains, there is usually wind.  When there is wind, water can get pushed up around anything, including under a cockpit cover.  I would use it in fair weather to keep sun, leaves, and bird doo-doo out of the car.

Paul ... The cover that I have is water repellent; if it was really going to rain, I'd put the top up.  It keeps out the sun, leaves, bird stuff and it hides anything on the seat that might be tempting.

It attaches with a strap that goes under the trunk lid, velcro straps that go around both door handles, both whindshield wiper bases and the driver side outside mirror.  It fits tight so water would easly roll off.  It is a good item.

Here is my cockpit cover. I love it for nice days when I want to keep the seats cool and debris out. I think it is similar to the one Jim is describing. About 80 bucks plus S&H.

It looks like Carparts has the best prices on these cockpit covers.  Now to decide which brand to go with.  I'd like to hear your opinions on which brand to go with.  The choices are listed here.  http://216.60.144.111/ecatcust/getx.asp?vid=37110726482

I believe the one I have (shown below) is a Weathershield. The price seems to have gone up a bit. But what hasn't? Its hard to tell from my picture but mine is really pretty ultra-light weight. The benefit of this is easy storage and simple on & off. Others on the site such as Sunbrella seem a little thicker -- more like a full car cover. They would probably handle weather better. But then again, I'd probably have the top up before that happened.

Here's an extract of a msg from July 2003. Info might still be correct except for the price.

"I am pleased with a recent purchase of a Cockpit Cover for the 113; covers the windshield and entire interior. It's prevented from “walking away” by three canvas straps that fit into the groove in the trunk seal. When the trunk is closed on the three straps, the cover is not easily removed by a jealous passerby.

Cover protects against sun, light rain, bird droppings and similar catastrophes; made of the same material as the full car cover. Held in place by Velcro straps around the mirror and door handle, wipers hold the cover to the windshield; light gray [those from MB are] printed with the MB Star and “Mercedes Benz” on one side. Might have to ask MB for the cover as an R107 part, it’s not listed or sold for 113 cars but it fits 113's perfectly. About $50 from MB, Part MB Q-6-60-0053. Believe they are made for MB by California Car Cover. Photo shows the cover on an R107."

The part number for the 107 cockpit cover from MB is Q 6 60 0053 R107

Fits the 113, readily available, not too expensive.

If you are covering a 280sl with the head rests - I would vote for the 107 cover because it a
little fuller.
With out the head rest use the regular 113 cover.

I have a 113 cover - very nice but needs a little more room for my 71sl
