Can we get a list started of hard-to-find parts? We can inform each other where they may be available OR we can lobby with Daimler-Chrysler and/or other OE manufacturers to start production again.
Has anyone found it impossible to find a certain part ?

Turn signal stalk - you can find them but they are prohibitivly expensive.

For 230SL, the black plastic dash vent levers for the side vents by the doors. The small grip went from horizontal to vertical (or the other way around?), and the old type is NLA. I have one of each in my car.

Great topic! Here is what I found difficult to find:
Soft top lid chrome joint cover,
ignition key blanks,
passenger door pull handle,
window crank inserts in colors other than black,
front turn indicator reflectors,
fog light reflectors,
"250SL" trunk tag,
transmission dipstick cap,
distributor condensor bracket,
and probably more to come...

Well apart from that elusive "Cheap" Becker Europa I am missing the left sun visor brakcket on my 230SL. This is the chrome hinge piece which is made of "Unobtainium" !!
It is different from the later cars and mine sheared off and was welded by someone and sheared again and now I cant effect a repair.
SO if anyone has a parts car with one ............ !

What's the difference between Europa I and II? Stereo vs. mono? I found a Europa II in a junk yard out of a early 70s sedan. Got if for $40. All I wanted was to fill the hole in my dash with something that looked remotely original. I wired it up just for fun and it works great! Cost me more to get replacement knobs than the radio did! I wired it to 2 speakers that sit in the well behind the seats.

In addition to previous posts:
- For early 230 SL with vertical spare wheel: the rubber mat for the trunk. You only can find the rubber mat for horizontal spare wheel.
- For 230 SL, the chrome inner rear-view mirror: you only find the plastic one in MB, and if you find the chrome one in any supplier, it's really expensive
- The early style of tail lights (for all 230 and 250, and 280 up to chassis #007937), mainly in all red color. They are not not available in MB, and if you find them from any supplier, they are very expensives.

Hello all,
There are tons of tiny little and larger parts that are no longer available from MB.
You named the most important of them.
When I once find a little time, I'll set up a list with the most of the parts that I tried to get and can remember.
Unfortunately, there are more parts:
- Gas tank for very early 230ies
- Sunvisors with mirror for 230 SL/250 SL early
- Colored heater levers for 230 SL/250 SL early
- Many if not most parts of the dash chrome. At least the fresh air vents are no longer available
- I think in the meantime all complete engines at least for 230 and all long blocks. Don't know about 280 short blocks.
- Late style (280 SL) steering wheel, both colors
Window cranks 280 SL
- Most (if not all) of the original carpeting (Oh yes ! A few parts are still available !)
- Cigar lighter
- Spare wheel well for early 230ies (up to VIN 007204) and trunk mat as Albert already mentioned
- Brass radiator overflow tanks for 230ies and all others up to mid-280 SLs
- Hardtop (raw or complete)
... and many more little parts.
Cheers :o
