I understand that the dash light rheostat is no longer availible. So what is the solution to fixing one that no longer works? does anyone have a source for repair of these unites?
Thank You

Hi Bob,
I have a "Word" document w/pictures to rebuild the rheostat.
Let me know if I should email to you.
Admin - would be nice to be able to upload Word or PDF files...

Bob Possel: Is this an article suitable for Pagoda World? I'm always looking for more material!
Bob Geco: This rheostat can be bypassed if the repair can't work, and this would make the dash lights operate at 100% all the time.

Hi Rod,
I will clean it up a bit, and email to you.
You can then decide if its good enough to post.
Just to clarify... this information is from a combination of info submitted to this site, plus another MB wesite. I can not take any credit for the original info. However, it is very good info!

I'd like to have those instructions also. The rheostat in my car turns, but does not dim the lights. bpossel could I ask you to e-mail me that file as well? Thanks!

Hi Peter, I will be happy to email to you. Please email me your email address. Our email addresses are not visable on this site and the system does not accommodate any file attachments with our emails.
Maybe someday we will be able to upload PDF files, Word files, etc...

Wheather your dimmer works or not it's only part of the problem. The other issue is the uneven brightness between the tach and the speedo. I believe I read something on this forum about having the inside of the speedo painted bright white. Not sure if this was done or not or if it changed or helped the appearence of the gauges at night. I've read up on the use of LED lights. Is it possible to put a higher wattage bulb in the speedometer or perhaps a couple LED's in stategic places along with the original bulbs?
My rheostat is bypassed and that works fine for me but I'd still like to even out the lighting on my gauges!

How does one bypasses the rheostat. I see 3 wires connected to the rheostat: 1 brown apart and one blue/grey and one white together
