I am replacing my speedometer cable. Can the new one be used out of the box (dry), or is lubricating it before installation recommended? If so, what lubricant?
Also, Does it matter or make things easier which way the old and new are pulled. I am set to pull the old one out from the transmission end and pull the new one in from inside the car.
Thanks

I don't think you can pull the old one from the transmission end due to the size of the pass through hole and the thickness of the nut unless you cut the cable under the dash. I am planning on doing the same thing in a couple of days. I think you have to pull through the firewall and feed through the firewall.

I replaced the tach cable and never even thought about lubricating it. This is about 7 years ago, and no issues yet.
