NEED HELP IS THE HARDTOP FOR THE 230SL THE SAME AS THE HARDTOP
FOR A 1969 280SL AND WILL IT FIT A 280SL.

They are not exactly the same. The latch and receivers at the B pillar are a bit different: they are interchangeable but it is not a perfect fit. To make it perfect, you would have to swap out the receivers (the chrome soft top hinge covers) to match the early or late hard top you want to use. Some one else will have to offer advice on the front latches, as I know they are also different but I don't know if it matters.

Hey Gene,
Generally there is very little difference between the hard tops of the 3 models, however the 230 sl has 2 levers built into the front to secure the hard top to the windscreen.
The late 250sl and 280sls have 2 removable handles which come in a vinyl pouch and can often be bought off the net.

also speaking in generalaties, 230sl's usualy have clear glass and 250-280s usualy have tinted.

This is a good pic of the latter style receiver, the early one (I still am looking for a pic) does not have the inboard half-circle raised area.
