Title: Metal cleaning

Does anyone know of a material that will take off the white corrosion on the different metal tubes in the engine compartment. I am hoping to find something with optical brightners in the formula. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Are you going for factory-like originality or what you personally like?  Many of the metal tubes (fuel lines, linkages, etc.) were originally a goldish finish.  Here's a restored car:

A Scotch Brite pad like the kind you use to scour pots and pans works just fine. I use this with Simple Green in a spray bottle.

there is a product in the UK called Solvol autosol which is like tooth paste ( doesn't taste as nice ) and it is the best at polishing up all metal. It is extremely mildly abrasive and makes metal look absloutely amazing. It works especially well on dull metal.

Thanks Nick, reminded me of those many gruelling hours a few years ago, spent with autosolve on my Lotus 7! but yes its does work well, just takes you days to get the crud off your hands. Never thought of rubber gloves in those days!
It was worth it though we did win the concours prize at the National Lotus 7 UK event.

I use a product called Nevr-dull wadding polish by Eagle One. It was called Magic Wadding years ago. This stuff works great. Just keep the lid on always as it will dry out quickly. It doesn't take much to work, a can  lasts a long time.

Thank you all for your answers on the metal cleaning issue. The car that we are working on is going to be shown in the preservasion class at judged concours events this spring and summer on the left coast.
