Title: hardtop seal question
Post by: sailjay on April 12, 2007, 08:47:28
I'm replacing the seals on a hardtop. The rear seal is two layers, sort of folded over, one side is rubber and the other is a type of fabric. I'm assuming the rubber side is glued to the underside of the hardtop but I'm not sure if the open end of the folded seal faces forward or back. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just looked at mine.   The open edge is toward the outside of the hardtop (toward the back and sides).  Where'd you get your seals?  Millers?   I've just repainted my hardtop and wanted to pull the windows and replace all the seals.

The fabric "wrapper" on the seal should be facing down when the top is in place.  It prevents sqeaking and wear where the seal touches the chrome rub strip on the soft top cover.

I did get the seals from Miller's. I installed them last night. They went on and fir perfectly. I didn't have to replace windows. I only reupholstered the leather and replaced seals, the crank cones and pins. Thanks for your reply.
