Hi,
Spring is here and last week-end we changed oil, checked and topped up transmission oil and greased the under carriage etc. However, I could only find 2 grease nipples on the drive shaft; one at the drive shaft front where two is supposed to be found according to the Owners Manual - and one at the center. I checked Owners Manual, and there is a photo of the two nipples; one on the shaft and one looks like it's situated on the bearing. Our Pagoda is a 1964 230 SL fitted a 280 SL engine, so could it be that the former owner had fitted a 280 drive shaft? (does 280 SL only have two nipples?) Or are we just somehow missing one? Any help greatly appreciated with thanks!
Cheers

Finn ...... You should find a second grease nipple behind the center bearing (toward the rear of the car). The fitting puts grease into a sliding spline.

What's the best grease to use in the drive shaft? Can I use the high-temp grease for wheel bearings?

My 250 SL manual calls for only one grease fitting on the shaft right behind the flex disc at the tranny and, it only has one. Evolution from the 230...nothing at the center bearing.
