Title: treating tunk mat
Post by: tuultyme on March 10, 2007, 11:07:59
There was a recent discussion on cleaning and treating white walls.  Instead of adding to that discussion I will start a new one on treating the rubber trim expecially the tunk mat.  My tunk mat (1970) is starting to get a little brittle; what do you use to treat the Mat?   Griot's and Autopia-car care both have a rubber treatment compound.

Rubber treatment products will make the mat look better, but I don't find any proof of the claims that they make rubber last longer.  That said, I use Griot's Garage Vinyl and Rubber Treartment.  It leaves a very natural looking finish - looks ilke new, untreated rubber.

I will second Vince's motion. I have had very good results using the products from Griot's. But also as he said, once the rubber starts to crack and dry, that is something that is happening with the structure itself, and not surface treating product is going to offer much help other than in possibly delaying the inevitable.
