If it does not work I would guess that, even though the cable (actually it is a tube) does not appear to be cut, the gas that is supposed to be inside has nevertheless escaped at some point. I believe someone reported here that there is a way to have it repaired, but am not sure about that. Doing the repairs yourself would seem out of the question to me, given that there is some exotic kind of gas involved.

I sent mine to
Palo Alto Speedometer
718 Emerson St.
Palo Alto, CA 94301-2410
Tel: 650-323-0243
Fax: 650-323-4632
http://www.paspeedo.com/

the temp guage can be removed from the center cluster and sent out for a new capillary tube, cleaning and calibration.
the cost was about $180. us.

I just got mine back, it looked great and the new tube was flexible not stiff like the old one.
