Title: Blacklick preparation
Post by: Kenneth Gear on February 21, 2007, 19:45:33
As I sit here with my car in winter hibernation, I find myself daydreaming about about the long trip to Blacklick this summer.  It'll be my first long distance drive in the pagoda.

Any suggestions for pre-trip services I should perform?

How about parts I should have n the trunk just in case.. like belts or hoses, etc?

If you don't trust your hoses and belts on your car the new ones should be on the engine not in the trunk.

When I rebuild one of my engines I always rebuild the starter and the alterator. I replace all the belts and the waterpump.

That way I don't even have to think about it.

Hi Ken,

Another suggestion prior to the "big trip" to Ohio, would be to take your car on shorter trips over the weekend.  Map out a place to visit that's a couple hundred miles away and see how your car performs.  This also helps to gage highway gas mileage, oil consumption, etc...

This is in addition to checking all hoses, belts, wires, etc. prior to any big trip.

ps. I would keep tools, spare fuses and some rags in the trunk.  Also some chigger spray.  I dont know about anyone else, but the chiggers really liked me a couple of years ago[:0].  I think I still have a couple of scars...  They are pessky little boogers[:(!]!

See ya in Blacklick!

Aah yes, Cutter Insect Repellent, AKA Minnesota Perfume. Don't travel in the Midwest without it.
Chiggers are tiny biting insects that crawl on the ground. They tend to bite along the elastic of undergarments leaving itchy bumps in unmentionable places.

Bob,
since you live in Queensland you may have heard of scrub typhus. Well, its caused by the same type of nasty creatures harboring rickettsias. And if you really want to know the specifics: Chiggers are classified in the phylum Arthropoda, class Arachnida, order Acarina, family Trombidiidae. But fortunately not in Pagodae.  :D

Personally, my list would include (perhaps even in this order):
1. AAA (premium variety that offers flatbed).
2. Cell phone (and charger!) & Joe's phone number!
3. Tools (including tape & flashlight!)
4. Fuses, a couple bulbs, a good spare tire, a fan belt
5. Workshop manual

Now I don't have one but a laptop w/wireless would be nice. Homepage set to HERE!
