Title: I was told to use gear oil in my 4 sp is this ok ?

since I do not use my car in cold weather I was told to use gear oil in the 4 speed transmision is this corect or should I use ATF

Hello Erick,
These standard transmissions are designed to run with automatic transmission fluid. I have always used ATF.

Agree with Joe,

You should use ATF. A Mercedes mechanic warned me that normal gear oil could damage the gearbox (there are some ball bearings which are not lubricated with the thicker oil)

Anyone know why you're to use ATF and not gear lube? There's an actual reason why.
