My profile under "Car Registry" has some errors. I can't figure out how to make changes (I am sure the instructions are right in front of me  ). Please advise.

I'd like to add the chassis number to my profile. If you find out how, please let me know.
-
Fortunately, the only thing that needs updating on mine is the mileage!

Also have wanted to amend, but never worked out how!

Realize that their are two entirely different areas of this website, each requiring you to log in with a user name and password. If you go out to the front page, where the color photos are along with access to the various navigation links you'll see in the upper right corner a yellow "log in" button. If you are logged in as a member and go into the database, you are able to edit the data you have input for your car. ;)
Simple as that!

OK, I logged in as a full member from the front page... I still don't seem be able to edit my car registry info. I see the option to add a new record, but not how to edit an existing record. What am I missing?

I don't know if this is because as administrator I have superpowers, but when I log in I get "edit" and "delete" buttons on the far right of the registry records...
If you log in, don't you get these also ?
Peter
-
No...if perform the task as Ed Cave described I can only edit my user profile. I cannot edit changes to the Car Registry.

Yes Peter,
Some are more privileged than others. ;)
When I log on I cannot see the last two columns to the right shown in your picture. Although when you look close you can see the beginning of the next column to the right. I doubt that this is simply screen adjustment problem because when I copy the text in the first row the
edit and delete buttons do not show up either. Looks like these buttons are under the control of the admin.

I can't edit my profile any longer either (used to be able to). I tried changing the font size, scrolling over to the right etc., but it's like Alfred (66andblue) describes. Something changed apparently.

OK, I just went in as described below, logged in and edited my entry in the Car Registry without a problem. That is what we are talking about, right?
I have no special credentials and had no problem doing it. 8)

I can assure you nothing changed in the code for that page, however, I'll put on my programmers hat and dive into the code. Watch this space and I'll let you know how it goes...
Sorry for all the confusion this is causing...

Eeehh - after logging in as a full member, I am able to update the profile ....
As it turns out, non-full members can add a record, however are unable to edit or delete it, once it's in. Only full members can edit their records, but only after logging in.
If possible Peter, I would suggest allowing the 'edit/delete' option also to non-full members.

Aha..
well, that explains it. The reason you need to login to delete or modify your car registry is to prevent anonymous users from defiling this registry. So I am afraid that I am unable to provide access to anyone except for full members (they are the only ones capable of logging in).
If you are not a full member, then you can send me (admin@sl113.org) an e-mail request with:
- your full name
- a copy of the current contents of the car registry
- a horizontal line
- a copy of just the fields you want changed with the new data only.
Full members can update these details themselves. If I receive this email, I will then update the database directly. An example of this e-mail:

Comments: Currently in restoration

Comments: Restauration completed October 2006

What constitutes a full member? I paid $30 last year and just renewed for 2007...does this only provide me with limited benefits?

If you've paid up, you are a full member. For the difference between full and basic membership, check http://www.sl113.org/membership/default.asp.
Well, I've looked into the software. All of us can edit records, provided you have logged in. There is an exception possible (if you managed to get two different member numbers due to duplicate registration) which would prevent you from editing your records, but this should be rare. In that case, just send me an e-mail as identified below.
The process therefore should be:
- login on the site here http://www.sl113.org/home.asp by clicking on the yellow Login tab on the top right hand corner. Log-in using your e-mail address and password
- Then go to the car registry here http://www.sl113.org/data/carreg/show_table.asp
- Now you should have an EDIT and DELETE button at the right hand side of the table for your record only.
If you do not have that, but you can see on the home page that you are loggged in correctly, send me instructions as per the e-mail below. In all likelihood your member number (internal in the system) has changed.
Success.
Peter

Ok, I've found it. If you entered your registration details, either
- without being logged in
- or prior to signing up as a full member
that would explain you not being able to update your record. Please follow the instructons below to mail me AND send me the mail from the e-mail account from which you registered, and I'll ensure that you can update your records yourself (by linking them back to your member number).

Hi Peter
Since we're talking about the site itself, this seems like a good time to ask why threads like this one end up wider than normal? Does the software not size attachments to fit the normal screen size?
Or is it my vintage computer 8)
-
Ricardo - as to the sizing of this thread, I will bet the farm that it is so wide due to the screenshot that is copy-pasted by the 6th respondent ('66andblue') into his reply. All (or 99%) of the other threads should fit into your screen.

Absolutely correct, Cees!
I deleted the offending screenshot and now the text in the window adjusts. Learned something again, thanks!

I'm pleased to hear it...
And 66andBlue... you will have noticed I adjusted the size of the screenshot down to be 640 pixels wide on purpose, to make sure it fits in the standard browser...
You can do the same next time!
So, if you are a full member, and you cannot update your car registry, send me the details as per the instructions below and I'll ensure you can edit it again.
