We got our Pagoda nut and bolt restored last autumn and found a fair amount of structural rust under a seemingly nice surface. Needless to say we wish this not to happen again and living 200 m from the coast line in a country with a very aggressive humid coastal climate, we know how important decent rust proofing is to keep the dreaded corrosion away.
Modern vehicles are taken to special rust proofing work shops using commercial products such as Tectyl and Dinitrol etc. and most important, the workshops have so-called 'spray-schedules' which in details shows the cavities to spray with thin penetrating oil/wax and where to spray with a thick wear-resistant layer.
What we learned from our restoration is that most corrosion comes from inside and out. Condensation builds up in cavities, sub frames and sills and eat the metal slowly but surely if not rust proofed.
I don't know of any who has a 'spray-schedule' for a Pagoda and it was probably not invented when these cars were in daily use. However, I would be extremely grateful if any of you would share your experience and knowledge concerning roost proofing your treasured Pagoda.
Cheers

I have one !
It was reprinted and published by The Mercedes Benz Club and reprinted in our Gazette sometime in the last year !
It shows where to apply/re-apply etc and where the various cavity location holes are !
Unfortunatley my scanner is broken but I would gladly fax it if you can provide a number. It may take a day or two to find it !

Ben in Ireland.

Ben,
My new car is about to go to the shop for numerous bits of work following a German TUV test failure today. It ends with a spray. Is there any chance I could trouble you for a copy of the same document? (My mechanic was talking about it only yesterday)

Ben,
I would love a copy as well. Living on a tropical island, rust is always an issue.

Wow Ben, that really sounds great. I have forwarded you an e-mail with my fax number and if I receive it Friday the latest I can scan it before Christmas leave and put in on to the Group.
Thanks a million
Greetings

Ben - could you inquire whether the Irish/UK club would grant us permission to reprint this diagram into Pagoda World or, better yet, make it available on the forums/homepage somewhere as a pdf for example?

That same factory diagram of body cavity wax/waxoyl locations appears in an old issue of the Mercedes Collector, Frank Mallory's old magazine. Perhaps knowing this will make the search easier for some people. I know back issues of that publication are floating around in this group.

I have an electronic fax that goes right into my e-mail box - scanned automatically. If you wish send it to me 00971-84-48-1916 and I shall post it right away. International charges apply on your side. I think many of us gave a thought to this idea one day or another.

The article appears in issue 7, from June of 1993. Pages 11-13.
I only have it in PDF format, so I'm not sure how to post.

Ben/Tom,
The attachment posted by Abbas (for which many thanks) looks great, but can I ask for some clarification? Does the diagram show the areas where one should spray in something like Waxoyl? Also, what is the aim (other than to prevent rust) - I mean, is the aim to spray the inside of all panels with waxoyl and thus prevent water doing damage that way? Also, what preparation is required before goo is sprayed in? Clearly it's not possible to clean these areas without having the car in bits.
Can you provide a little more info?
Many thanks,
James

In his Hardtop Restauration article Gernold Nisius shows a picture where he sprays wax into the hardtop legs using a pressurized spray can.
The Waxoyl homepage shows a picture similar to Gernold's and again it appears that one must use a spray gun and compressed air: http://www.waxoyl.com/en/produkte/120-4.htm
Does anybody know whether good liquid wax is available in a ready-to-use aerosol can?

Thanks a million, exactly what is needed! Hopefully many members will do the rather messy, but rewarding job to preserve our Pagodas.

Sure, Wurth has it. :) Article No 0893 081 #Cavity protection spray wax.
Wurth is OEM for Mercedes production in the factories.

Hans,
thank you for the link. Fortunately, it is also sold in the USA:

Now I need to find a way to buy it.

The entire rustproofing plan is right here: http://www.pagode.info/68.htm
It's in German and the resolution is not the greatest, but it gives a pretty good overall picture...
