Title: Steering Damper / Shock Longevity ??
Post by: rogerh113 on December 14, 2006, 14:17:15
Hello,

Does anyone know the approximate expected life of the steering shock?  Looking for a ballpark to determine if it is time to replace mine, or if there is a different steering issue arising.  Just not sure if they are generally short-lived or if they usually last for decades.....

Thanks -- Roger

Most cars that come in here with over 100,000 miles on them all have dead steering shocks. It doesn't matter what model car either.
I undo one end of the shock and push then pull on it to see if there's resistance against either direction. No resistance or skips in the action and it's no good.
