Paul,
Your VIN is more accurately typed: 113044-22-011250
What "production register" are you looking at? Something on-line that you can point us to?
Our group has a page showing production dates by VIN here:
http://www.sl113.org/data/prod_month.asp
You can also add your car to our "Car Registry" here:

Does the 22 transmission code indicate an automatic with wrong-hand drive?
Would 20 indicate a std trans w/RHD?

Well, international political incorrectness aside, the codes for left/right drive and manual/auto transmissions are:
10 LHD Manual
12 LHD Auto
20 RHD Manual
22 RHD Auto

here is the list.
Note the number seen in the list is the LAST car built for that month.
Your car would have been built in July 1969.

I don't mean to be dense, but how do you know that? I can't see how to read the numbers.

Paul, The 113 is the Mercedes designation for chassis style, ie. all the 1963 to 1971 SLs (Pagodas). O44 is the designation for model ie. the 280. 22 is the transmission and the last six numbers are the serial number for your specific car. Mine is 113 044 10 000176 for SL 280 manual #176 off the line.

The column on the right indicates the model eg 113 044
look down the column to find the number range applicable to your cars number, ie. 011250
last car made in June is number 011135
last car made in July is number 011926
Your car falls in that range which indicates it was made in July 1969
