Title: noise suppresser or capacitor
Post by: merrill on October 17, 2006, 17:00:08
so,
I have an item connected to a terminal on my coil that I think is a
capacitor. small round metal items with only one wire.

only one wire and it is bolted next to the coil.  Cheryl at k and k said this was a noise suppressor but sls has it on their web site as a capicitor.

are these the same thing? or not?

I have a new red coil, points, 1.8 ohm ballast and condenser.
should I change the noise suppressor / capacitor as well?

thanks

Hello Matt,

Yes these cars which came from the factory with radios has a filter/capacitor on the coil.

The names 'filter capacitor condenser noise suppressor' are all for the same thing.

The condenser that is fitted to the distributor does the same job as the 'added' noise suppressor on the coil.

Incidentally, there is usually a 'noise suppressor' on the alternator and often one on the electric fuel pump.

MB mentions all these in the BBB job 82-20, second series book 1968-1972

Capacitor, The device
Noise Suppresser, The Application.

Be sure to attach the noise supressor to the + side of the coil.
