Title: A/C Conversion
Post by: cqivchan on August 29, 2006, 22:29:11
I am interested in converting the Frigiking unit in my '71 280sl to 134a.  I would also like to change to a rotary compressor.  Anyone had experience with this change?  Do you know or a good source for the compressor bracket compressor?  Thanks in advance for the help!   :D

Sorry, I meant to say "a source for a compressor bracket and compressor..."  Thanks...

Try the "Search" feature on this site. Very useful and a lot of information on that topic will be found.

Charlie,

If you are already set up with the stock Frigiking system, you can simply get the interface bracket for a rotary compressor. I'd suggest the Sanden 508. You should change the hoses as well. The newer barrier hoses use an o-ring type fitting which holds up much better to the higher R134A pressures. You'll need a new reciever/dryer with hi-low cutout switch. A parallel flow, high efficiency condensor will round this all out. The interface bracket can be used to attach your new rotary compressor directly to the std, stock compressor bracket. Let me know if you need additional help--I've got the "tee shirt" for this job but opted for the Bud's type bracket since I've got a 230Sl which is set up a little different as far a belting goes!
