Title: EPC on the Web!
Post by: ctaylor738 on August 03, 2006, 16:23:14
This from Rusty Cullens, posted on mercedesshop.com.  I tried it and it works. You can set this bookmark for US 280 cars:

For anyone that has longed for the Genuine Mercedes EPC but didn't want to pay for it, your search is over. Click this link below and it is FREE. Yes, FREE. It starts out in Russian but don't let that bother you. On the main page click on "Mercedes" on the left column. Enter your VIN and voila. You have a free EPC.

Is there any way to make this work for Euro-model cars?  The VIN for my Euro 230SL comprises 14 digits and two hyphens, but the site seems to want 17 characters.

BTW, what is an EPC?

Chris,

14 digits should be consistent for all Pagodas, Euro or US. Technically, I think there are 3 hyphens: 113-04X-XX-XXXXXX

If you enter the first eight digits of your VIN, it seems to work.  I did not enter any dashes or spaces.  The 17 character message seems to be a warning.

Hi,

Tried it for my 230SL with no luck.  Looks like from the car selection listing (hit 'auto' in top menu instead of inserting vin) they only cover 250sl and 280sl.  Oh WELL.......

OK, I got it to work, but only for a VIN for a 250SL or a 280SL  (starting 113043xx or 113044xx).  The VIN for my 230SL begins 11304210, and the site considered that invalid.

I also figured out EPC stands for Exploded Parts Catalog.  What appear to be the same pictures are also available at the sls web site: http://www.sls-hh-catalogue.de/bin/dbframes.phtml?mid=IN02

This is the first on-line EPC with what looks like correct parts numbers listed. Can someone with a parts catalogue confirm this?
