Title: Emer. Brake Lever Cover P/N?
Post by: n/a on July 25, 2006, 18:57:41
Dear Members;
My MB dealer can't seem to find the P/N for the shroud/cover that is used on the emergency brake lever...anyone know? Mine was missing when I got my car and it doesn't look right without it.
Thanks in advance...

Joe - What shroud/cover would that be?  My lever is completely exposed.  The is a rubber ring at the transition from the chrome grip and the black base, but that is it.

I don't think there is a cover/boot.

Mine has the shroud. Blue MB-tex to match the interior. It covers the bottom part of the lever mechanism. All that is exposed is the chrome handle and the ivory button.

I would say that any shroud or cover is not original.  None is shown in any of the literature or manuals.

Here are some pics. I'd be surprised if it was not original since it seems to be the exact material of the original glovebox, etc. But I could be wro..wro...wro...wrong! ;)

I've never seen such a thing, very nice!  Maybe a dealership or custom (after market) add-on?

James,

Given your car is a '63, maybe this was the early standard.  By the way, how is the chrome handle done?  Is it a seperate sleeve over the e-break, or is the just the gripping end of it chromed?  Mine showed no sign of chrome at all, so I just painted it silver for now.

I've gone through every magazine article in my collection plus my early and late 230SL factory sales brochures.  All show an "open" lever, with a chromed handle and a rubber sleeve at the transition from chrome to black.  To get the chrome handle the end of the lever was chromed.  There is a dimple at the bottom of the chromed part and that is the end point for the blcak paint.  The rubber sleeve covers the transition area.

Vince,

You're correct. There was no cover originally.
