Title: Pagoda's Personality - Summer vs. Winter Behaviour
Post by: Abbas on July 13, 2006, 09:54:46
Strangly today (a hot summer day) when I switch the car this
morning I saw the RPM go to 900 only instead of the usual 1200.

I thought about it and could only explain this behaviour by supposing
that the car acts differently when cold started in the winter vs.
summer - similar to people geting out of bed!!!

Are there other technical explanations out there like having to do
with the WRD's thermostat temperature or one of those many
start-up solenoids/devices on a hot day ...

Winter in the UAE?  Is that when it drops below 35C (95F)?  8)

When you talk about the RPM of the engine, is that in the first couple seconds at startup, or does it continue to run at those speeds?  I ask because 1,200 is not "usual".

It is just the first couple of minutes when the engine is warming up.
Actually our winters are not that bad - it drops to about 20 oC degrees.

Hey Abbas. I am not sure if the summer/winter differences are that dramatic. Maybe a very chilly cold start would differ from a warmer one, but not too much. What strikes me about your question is the 1200 RPM "for a couple minutes". As Rodd mentioned, 1200 is pretty high -- even for a couple seconds, I'd say... Mine is set to idle slightly higher than the called for settings -- and on start up is maybe 900. Never over a 1000. I wonder if there is something else raising your idle -- maybe throttle linkage sticking somewhere?
